COURAGE BEING SHOWN ON MULTIPLE FRONTS AT GOODWOOD PRIMARY!!!
With term 2 now in full swing, we are so proud to observe all of the ways our students are showing courage at school! Check out the display in our admin area for some colourful examples! In the meantime, here are a few examples.
- Daniel shows courage by taking on the role of daily PE leader for younger students.
- Miss Crow has been trying new ways to help her class learn about morphemes!
- Matilda has been teaching others to Crochet in the Crochet club
- Tobias never gives up with any sport he tries – running races, football and soccer!
- Taylah keeps having a go a things, even when they get hard!
Last week we were lucky to host an amazing musician Jon Maddin and his Wacky Instruments. All students participated in a workshop, trying out his marimbas, musical bikes, violins and some weird instruments that we’re not sure even had a name! In the afternoon we hosted a performance for the whole school and parents. Check out the pictures within our newsletter!
Cross Country
Our annual school cross country will be held next Tuesday 28th May. Our learners have been already out practicing the course and building up their running stamina for the event. We invite parents to come along to support and cheer our students.
Communicating Learning progress
This term in week 9, classrooms will be open for our two or three way communications around student learning progress. Teachers will be sharing student reports against the Australian Curriculum or Learning Plans, Evidence of Learning work samples and general information on learning, application to learning and wellbeing. Please keep an eye out for our booking information and make the time to come into school to hear about the wonderful growth each child has been making. It is so important that schools, teachers and families work together to get the best out of learners.
School Association
Next Monday afternoon the 27th May at 2pm we will be conducting our School Association Annual General Meeting. All positions on our School Association are vacant and we would really like to encourage family members to nominate themselves to be elected as a committee member, or come along to the meetings. It is not a huge commitment – only one meeting per term, but this is a way that you can play an active role in the school to help achieve our priority goals for student learning.
Kind Regards,
Jaime Allen
Principal
In class 5/6 we have been diving deeper into Morphology, which is understanding how words are put together. We have been looking at lots of different suffixes and learning what part of speech they go on, their meaning, identifying them in a text and writing them into sentences. It has been really interesting learning about the different way words are formed.
Here are some photos of our work.
Miss Crow
On Wednesday 15th May students from 1/2 and 2/3 travelled to Molesworth Environment Centre to participate in a Team Building Program.
Students worked in groups to complete problem solving activities within a time limit. The activities provided opportunities for the students to practise helping, sharing, turn taking, co-operation, effective communication, respect and encouragement.
The students had a fantastic day working alongside their peers!
Miss Galpin
At our Meet and Greet Assemblies we celebrate the students who have been caught following our Goodwood Primary School Values. If an adult or student observes someone doing something that is safe, caring or shows that they are learning they fill out a Postive Detective slip. The student is shown the slip as immediate feedback and positive reinforcement. The slip is then placed into a big bucket and we draw names out of the bucket like a raffle and then whoever gets drawn out wins a small prize.
Some of our recent Positive Detective Winners!

Did you know if your child has 10 days off school per year, that by Grade 4 they are 1 year behind?
The best thing for your child's future is to come to school every day.
Student Medication
Please advise office staff and your child’s class teacher if your child needs to take medication during school hours so arrangements can be made for the medication to be administered.
It is a Department of Education requirement that the following forms must be completed and signed before the commencement of dispensing medication to students: ‘Administration of Routine Medication Authorisation Form for Parent/ Guardian’; and ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation Form for Doctors’. The administration of medication to students is undertaken by Admin staff who will ensure it is taken correctly, details (e.g. date, time, dose etc) entered on the student’s personal medication sheet, and signed by a staff member and witness.
Medication is kept locked in the school safe or safe room. Students should not have any types of medication in their school bags.
Support your child’s online learning at home
Digital skills are critical to every child’s success, but supporting online learning can be overwhelming.
The Digital skills for families team are delivering a program to help Tasmanian families support online learning at home. Spending time online at home gives children an opportunity to practice what they are learning at school. Positive home environments help children develop the skills and independence they need to succeed in a digital future.
Learn about communicating online with schools, digital education at school and how to support online learning at home.
Digital skills for families is offering free:
· information sessions
· workshops
· one-to-one help
