Dear Families,
Welcome back to school for term 4. Term 4 is a busy term, with lots of exciting things happening and plenty to celebrate, but tinged with a little sadness as we know at the end of the year we will be saying goodbye to our Year 6 students who will be heading off to high school. Students have already started to engage in activities with our high schools to help with the transition to their new schools. It’s a great idea to start to engage in conversations with your child about high school now, to help become ready for the change and discuss any concerns they may have, so that they can have a positive start to the next chapter in their schooling. If you need help with this please speak with Ms Crow, Mrs Allen or Ms Crombie.
We have had a really positive start to the term, with all children coming back to school with positive attitudes and getting straight back into their classroom routines and learning. Over the holidays we had our Gym repainted and some new and repainted lines onto our outdoor play area and court. Our garden is flourishing with the hard work of Laura (our garden specialist) and classes throughout the winter months slowly coming to fruition.
This week we have celebrated a group of our students who have showed much courage to put themselves forward to compete in our Swimming Trials on Monday with Mrs Bushby. Our team for the Interschool Swimming Carnival will be selected based on these trials. Best of luck to these students for the carnival on the 9th of November.
We have begun planning for 2024. Could we please ask you to inform us if your child is in Kinder – Grade 5 and will not be attending GPS in 2024 due to relocation or other reasons. Could you please let the school office know as soon as possible.
You might have noticed that Mr Luttmer isn’t around at the moment - He is off sunning himself in Queensland for the next couple of weeks on some well-deserved Long Service Leave!
Enjoy this fortnight’s newsletter!
Kind Regards,
Jaime Allen
Principal
To start Term 4 off with a bang, Prep/1 are participating in a class Nursery Rhyme Olympics. We have saved Humpty Dumpty from falling off the wall with an Egg and Spoon Race. We have helped the Cow jump over the moon, jumping over hurdles, and helped Little Bo Peep find all 26 of her sheep!
We are looking foward to the next couple of events, who will we meet?
What is your favourite Nursery Rhyme? Come and sing it to Miss Leggate and or a Prep/1 student.

Congratulations goes to Hamish who represented Goodwood Primary School at the Champions Athletics Carnival held at the Domain on the 16 October 2023. Hamish competed in the 1500m and came 8th out of a field of 14 in the open boys. He also competed in the 800m and came 7th out of a field of 10. He also did well in the 100m and 200m heats but unfortunately didn't make it to the finals. Well done Hamish!
Surf Life Saving visited students in Year 1 and 2 with their Beach to Bush Program. Students participated in learning about how to be safe at the beach. Here are some facts students were able to recall.....
"If there are yellow and red flags you have to swim between them."
"Wave your fist high in the air if you need help."
"Use sunscreen in the sun and wear a hat."
"Don't swim in a rip."
It sounds like students will know what to do this summer when they hit the beach!
Pre-Kinder and Launching into Learning News
Last term our little learners put on their chef hats and created their own juice using fresh oranges, lemons and herbs.
Gripping the fruit and twisting was a hand and finger workout, a valuable way for our little learners to strengthen those important muscles ready for drawing and writing.
This invitation to play invited our little learners to use their sense of smell and taste to ask questions and talk about the ingredients they were using.
"What is this?" A
"The lemon is yuk!" J
"Ewwwwww!" A
"It's yum." B
"It smells like trees!" A
"Yuk!" Z

After receiving our award for 'Best Class on Ground' in the garden, the kinders have been more committed than ever. We have been regularly checking up on the progress of our strawberry plants and making sure they are watered. We are always eager to help Laura in any way we can and work together as a team to help care for our garden.

Did you know if your child has 10 days off school per year, that by Grade 4 they are 1 year behind?
The best thing for your child's future is to come to school every day.

Late Arrivals
If your child arrives at school after 8:50am unaccompanied by a parent/guardian the office will be marking attendances as unexplained other. The procedure for late arrivals will be as is for unexplained absences in that office staff will be calling the parent/guardian to clarify the reason the student was late arriving to school.

WALKING AND RIDING ARE GOOD FOR KIDS!
Walking to school is a great form of exercise for children. It reduces obesity and heart disease, improves mood and generally does wonders for your young adventurer's health. Walking to school also helps to create good habits for an active lifestyle.
Staff Carpark & Student drop/pick-up area
Our carpark has become quite congested due to increased staff at both Goodwood Primary School and Tas eSchool. We are again asking parents/carers to not enter the staff carpark when dropping off and collecting students. The carpark is for school staff of Goodwood Primary School and Tas eSchool and can be dangerous for students. The exception is for those parents whose child/children have a disabled parking permit.
To ensure the safety of our students and staff please follow the information below:
Students are to be dropped off and collected via the Elmsleigh Road carpark.
We thank you in advance for keeping our students safe!
At the end of last term we packed 17 Christmas Shoeboxes to send overseas. A big thank you to families and staff who brought along items to fill the shoeboxes. We raised $202 on Cupcake Day which will help give them wings so they can be delivered to poor villages overseas.
