Fantastic Start Back to Term 4....
Welcome back to school and to term 4! We have had a fantastic start to the term with uniforms being worn proudly by all students and it has been heartening to see our students quickly picking up where they left off with their understanding of our school rules and expectations!
Term 4 is traditionally a busy one and has certainly begun that way; our year 5/6 students begun a pathways program in their classrooms, hosted by the Smith Family, this program will complement our transition programs already in place to support our children transitioning to high school in the next years. Our year 5/6’s will also be involved in a Botanical Institute excursion, aligning with our 24 Carrot Garden connection. Our younger children will not miss out either, with learning experience to the museum, kunyanyi/Mount Wellington, the Sustainability Learning Centre and a pantomime at the Botanical Gardens.
At this time of the year, we also start looking ahead to 2025. We are acceptating enrolments for Kindergarten for children turning 4 throughout THIS year. If you know someone who has a child in this age group, please tell them to contact the office to request an enrolment form, we also have some space for out-of area enrolments.
If you know that your family will not be attending Goodwood Primary School in 2025, please contact the office to let them know, this will greatly assist in our planning for next year.
A reminder that this week is a short week, with the Hobart Show day holiday on Thursday and a Student-Free Day on Friday. Enjoy your extra long weekend and we will see you back at school on Monday 28th October 2024.
Kind Regards,
Jaime Allen
Principal
Students in 1-2 are engaging in an inquiry about our landmark kunanyi/Mt Wellington. It is the backdrop landscape we see at our school and local Goodwood community every day! Students are making daily observations of the ever-changing light, shadows and weather over the mountain. On some sunny days we have seen the glint off cars as they drive to the top. The picture of Kunanyi is even on our school logo and uniform!
Students have begun to wonder and ask questions such as;
“What does kunanyi mean in Tasmanian Aboriginal language?”
“How or why is it important to Tasmanian Aboriginal people?”
“I wonder what the pinnacle at the top is like. I have only been to The Springs.”
“What native animals live on kunanyi?”
“When the snow melts, where does the water flow to?”
“What is the pole on the top of kunanyi for?”
The next step in our inquiry cycle is to find out by asking people in our community what they know about the mountain. To also research and look forward to our planned excursion coming up to take us to Kunanyi. Families in 1-2, stay tuned for information about this being sent out soon.
VALUE OF RESPONSIBILITY
Students in 1/2 have been discussing and reflecting about the value of Responsibility.
Students shared ways we can be responsible at school, at home and in our community and the actions we can do to be responsible learners and people.

WHAT'S on WEDNESDAY in LIBRARY WITH LiFT
This Wednesday, before or after a pancake for breakfast cooked by Mr Luttmer, families and students enjoyed a morning playing Snakes and Ladders or reading in our library.
26Ten Week, Family fun with letters and numbers, highlights how families playing, singing and reading together supports children’s development of literacy and numeracy skills.
Learning is fun! And by learning together, parents and carers are setting a great example for their kids. Whether cooking with measurements, playing boardgames, or counting number plates, engaging in fun and educational activities together fosters a love for learning that will last a lifetime.

We've jumped straight back into a fun term of Kinder! We've been playing games and practising the first 6 sounds in the Jolly Phonics Program; s,a,t,p,i and n. This week, we played a class game of I Spy using items that begin with the sounds we are learning, and then we each made our own game of I Spy to play with each other.
Levies 2024
A reminder that school levies are now overdue and payable at the school office. Flexible payment arrangements for families may be organised with the School Business Manager if required.
Levies can be paid using the following options:
- At the school (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- At Service Tasmania (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- Through BPAY (using the Biller Code and Reference on your invoice)
- By mail, forward your cheque, money order or credit card details to the school, with the payment slip from your invoice attached (payable to the Department for Education, Children & Young People).
- Using Centrepay, a service provided by Centrelink.
Families who are supported through the Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) do not need to pay levies. Applications for the Student Assistance Scheme may be made online, or paper forms can be provided at the school office.
Late arrivals
If your child arrives at school after 8:50am unaccompanied by a parent/guardian, the office will be marking attendance as unexplained other. The procedure for late arrivals will be as is for unexplained absences in that office staff will be calling the parent/guardian to clarify the reason the student was late arriving to school.
A reminder that if your child is absent from school for any reason that you notify the school office by 9:30 am of that day. You can either contact the school office on 6272 9100 or email goodwood.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
Did you know if your child has 10 days off school per year, that by Grade 4 they are 1 year behind?
The best thing for your child's future is to come to school every day.
Student Medication
Please advise office staff and your child’s class teacher if your child needs to take medication during school hours so arrangements can be made for the medication to be administered.
It is a Department of Education requirement that the following forms must be completed and signed before the commencement of dispensing medication to students: ‘Administration of Routine Medication Authorisation Form for Parent/ Guardian’; and ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation Form for Doctors’. The administration of medication to students is undertaken by Admin staff who will ensure it is taken correctly, details (e.g. date, time, dose etc) entered on the student’s personal medication sheet, and signed by a staff member and witness.
Medication is kept locked in the school safe or safe room. Students should not have any types of medication in their school bags.

Rabbit Infestation on School Grounds
We wish to inform our school and broader community that we are having quite significant damage caused by the rabbit's infestation throughout our school grounds.
Can all visitors to our school site to be advised to watch for uneven surfaces and holes.
We are working with DECYP Facilities for advice to find a solution.
At our Meet and Greet Assemblies we celebrate the students who have been caught following our Goodwood Primary School Values. If an adult or student observes someone doing something that is Safe, Caring or shows that they are Learning they fill out a Positive Detective slip. The student is shown the slip as immediate feedback and positive reinforcement. The slip is then placed into a big bucket and we draw names out of the bucket like a raffle and then whoever gets drawn out wins a small prize.
